TRANS TEXAS CORRIDOR

The 79th Texas Legislature sent an amendment to the people which was to prohibit taking private land for private use.  In the same session the Legislature passed a law allowing a company from Spain to benefit from private land taken to build a massive transportation corridor through Central Texas.  Then the 80th Legislature postponed any action on the Trans Texas Corridor.  My opponent told the citizens of the District that the Trans Texas Corridor was a great idea that had to be pursued until he learned that a large number of voters and I were opposed to it.  I have opposed this idea since I first learned about it.  I have spoken against it in the public meetings and I have questions that I want answered..  One of the TXDOT officials at the meeting in McGregor told me that 95% or more of the speakers had spoken against the project at each of the meetings.  The question that I posed to the officials at the meeting in McGregor is that, if so many citizens are opposed to the project, why are they still proceeding to push it?  The Governor and TXDOT are out of control and must be reigned in.  Their hope is that the issue will die down and that the postponement can be lifted in the 81st Legislature.

Many Texans do not realize that TTC-35 is only one of the ugly twins.  The other is called TTC-69, and it will impact East Texas.  This idea of a massive land grab is wrong and must be stopped permanently.  I have not heard a single reason from those who oppose the Trans Texas Corridor with which I disagree and I have not heard a single reason for the undertaking with which I do agree.  The Trans Texas Corridor will impact everyone in Texas and will cost everyone in District 59.  Even though District 59 will not have any part of the TTC within its borders, TTC will be felt.
